Rachel Young – Chicago, IL

As far as pure talent goes, Rachel has this going for her in a big way. Probably having the highest I.Q. in the group you would never know it because she spends so much of her time being modest and telling other people how smart and beautiful and great they are. But really, if you [...]

Lauren Williams – Columbia, MO

Lauren has been called “Nice” all her life. So, when the call came to come and help out with this new magazine, it was a cinch. Destiny or not, she is the one person who is able to talk about the niceties of being nice and bring the subject into the larger social context. I [...]

Richard Raeke – Needham, MA

Raeke is perhaps the sharpest tool in this shed. He’s the kind of newspaper journalist that makes his job look easy. He’s paid his dues by covering hazardous waste in the heart of ‘Bama, the criminal courts in Florida and was nearly “taken care of” by Castro loyalist in Cuba. Raeke enjoys quipping with friends, [...]

T. Mac – New York, NY

T. is an idea maven and first class brain stormer. We’re talking deluge. Not a photo journalist by trade, she is going to do it anyway, because she can. T. loves her dog Sparky (really, it’s scary) and being super sweet to so many people. T. reigns from the Quad Cities (if you don’t know [...]

Jane Gillespie – Ewa Beach, HI

Book publisher extraordinaire, Jane is the calming force for NICE. Forget the dry cleaners or that steam iron, if we ever have a wrinkle or an uneven thought, Jane will be there to add some perspective and straighten everything out. Jane loves not smoking, designing “unreal kine” books and coming home everyday to her beach [...]

Julie Bresnick – New York, NY

JB, Brezy, Jules…you name it, she’s heard it. The “front man” for the group, Julie is a magazine editor, world traveler and a first rate friend if ever we had one. She is known as a convener of friends, a giver of thoughtful gifts and a pillar to lean on when the chips are down. [...]

Alexis Abrams – Denver, CO

Alexis is a photojournalist and editor by trade, having worked for some of the finest newspapers in the country. You can find her in the teacher’s lounge of Denver area colleges and in the burgeoning coffee house scene downtown discussing life, love and, well, life. Although perhaps the nicest person you’ll ever meet, she’d probably [...]

Beth Collins – New York, NY

An editor at a lifestyle magazine by day, Beth agreed to take on the editorial duties of the People, Places and Things departments of NICE. She loves fresh baked cookies, putting ties on her pet Labrador and arm wrestling naysayers anywhere, anytime. Beth still holds the record at her high school for most wins in [...]

Mahalo: Waikiki

Thanks to the guy at the parking garage who was so nice to hook me up with the validated price. Parking in Waikiki can be so expensive. So many Mahalos.

Man helps woman with her bags in a bar

From the Scarborough Evening News in England, a letter telling about how Wendy Pedley — tending to a broken wrist while juggling a cell phone and heavy bags on a busy street — was the recipient of a friendly helping hand. A stranger on the street asked if he could help with her bags and brought her to a nearby tavern where Pedley could then tend to her work. Then, the man disappeared.

Not a man trying to pick-up a woman in a bar, just some nice guy helping out another person in need.

Good on yeah, Scarborough man.
