About
History
NICE Magazine got its start in a fit of madness. In the early 1990s, founder, D. Robert, a once laid back, easy going cruiser from Hawai’i did what any aspiring Hawai’ian does — he moved to the Mainland to expand his horizons. What he found was an incredible mix of experiences, situations and interactions, the likes of which just didn’t happen back home. Along with all of the nice folks he met, the tremendous negativity, disrespectfulness and downright meanness that existed here at times astounded him. You’re probably thinking, “Welcome to the real world, poor D.”
That’s exactly the madness that riddled D. Robert. How can meanness be allowed to pervade our society? And how could we so complacently watch our world become angrier and angrier everyday? Something had to be done.
NICE Magazine was conceived at Waimea Bay, on the North Shore of Oahu, one bright, sunny morning in 2003. The idea was to have a publication entirely dedicated to nice. Starting out as a small blog in the Fall of 2004, the idea caught on and continued to grow.
NICE is now a small company based in New York City. D. Robert hopes to see this idea continue to grow and build into a pleasant and provocative place exploring the depths of nice people, nice places and nice things.
Mission
NICE Magazine reports on and explores the depths of nice people, nice places and nice things. We encourage people to think nice thoughts everyday and share them with the greater community.
